The mystical Britain sites list the Welsh village of Llangynog as a “thin place” where the lines between worlds can be crossed, at least by a few.

Bronwyn Bagley is one of those few, a young woman tied to the cultural traditions of an ancient time while seeking to find her purpose in a modern world that could easily view her as an oddity, if she isn’t careful. Detective Chief Inspector Will Cooper has suffered an unwilling transfer to the North Wales major crimes unit. Paired with a partner he can barely tolerate and a past that overwhelms him with guilt, he struggles to fit into a career that he fears will never be as fulfilling as what he had before. When Bronwyn becomes the main suspect in a churchyard murder near Llangynog, she must use her unique sources to clear herself of the crime. Will, drawn to her despite mistrusting both her motives and the information she provides, ignores department policy to work with her behind his partner’s back, knowing that the consequences that follow will neither gain him the respect of his colleagues nor solidify his position in the force. Danger lurks in the villages of pastoral Wales as the two dance around their personal secrets while cooperating to solve a crime neither of them is sure that Bronwyn didn’t commit. A traditional crime novel with just a touch of the mysticism that is woven into Welsh culture, this first novel in the Llangynog Murders series will leave you craving more.

About the Author:

Janet Newton is a former Spanish and creative writing teacher with a MA in literature and the humanities. When she decided to get serious about writing, her passion for British crime novels led her to set her novels in the UK, while her interest in magical realism focused her setting on Wales, a mystical nation if ever there was one. The tiny village of Llangynog caught her interest, and the Llangynog murders came into being. She has made five trips to Wales, dragging her travel companions to Llangynog and Pennant Melangell and taking dozens of photos to refer back to while she writes, and every single time she comes home with stories about things like the flocks of pheasants fluttering down the narrow lane between the hedgerows and the horse that raced up on a bank just above the car and nearly jumped onto the roof. Llangynog always makes her smile. In her free time, she travels as far and as often as her finances allow, to 35 countries so far, and she gardens, rides her bicycle on the local trails, plans elaborate camps for her grandkids, reads voraciously, and writes when the snow is flying outside and she can't get outdoors.
